Phuket is getting ready for the 27th Kings Cup Regatta

USPA NEWS - The Phuket King´s Cup Regatta is recognized worldwide as the premier sailing event throughout the eastern hemisphere. The regatta inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate His Majesty´s Bhumibol Adulyade, the King of Thailands 60th birthday on December 5.
The regatta has been held ever since in the first week of December. This year the regatta will be held from December 1 to 6.

Trying to make for an open racing division, a new Bareboat Charter division is added to this 27th regatta. This is to sort out the differences between amateur and professional teams in the particular class. More than 100 vessels and over 1,000 sailors are expected to participate, including racing catamarans, cruising and racing boats, International Grand Prix racing crafts, full-scale racers and a vast fleet of various sailing boats. All of them competing for Asia´s most desired prize in competitive sailing.

Kata Beach Resort & Spa in the south of Phuket will host the Opening Ceremony and Party on December 1, 2013. The race itself is set to cast off the following morning on December 2. While different classes like keelboats and multihulls will be racing over five days from 2 ““ 6 December, the Dinghy class will have its turn from 1 to 4 December. Windsurfing, which was reintroduced in 2012 as one of the competitive classes will compete on 5 and 6 December. His Majesty the King´s birthday will be celebrated with a sail pass on Thursday, December 5. On the evening of December 6 the Royal Awards Ceremony will be held at the Kata Beach Resort with the subsequent closing party.
Six incredible beachside parties will be hosted by some of Phuket´s best hotels and restaurants one of which is the Kata Beach Resort & Spa which will host two parties. Usually close to 2,000 party goers, sailors and non-sailors attend these parties every night. The Phuket Kings Cup Regatta is held under the Royal Patronage, and organized by the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club.
